SD Card Cleaner

I was thinking for some time about taking out my phone SD card to clean it. Sitting in that slot for years is sure to make it full of dust, cobwebs and whatnot. You see, I hold on to a phone until it fails me completely. My last one was a Motorola T190. I kept using it until the antenna rubber rotted off and the battery couldn't keep it up for longer than six hours. And so, weeping, I switched to one of those new clever phones, all the time cursing for not having physical buttons anymore. I considered a Blackberry just because I longed for the touchy-feels, but it was too expensive a trifle. I eventually got the hang of using the touch screen. Oh, what was writing about?

Surprisingly SD Card Cleaner does not "clean" your SD card. How could it? Instead, it scans both your SD card and the device's internal memory to make up a list of potential leftover files. The list is ordered by size, the largest ones sitting at the top, thankfully. Each entry shows the name, location, size and type, to help you make an informed decision.

Unlike what you might be used to, SD Card Cleaner does not claim to automatically "optimize" your device. You alone decide to remove each of the files. The app lets you open media files directly if you need more info. Otherwise, the procedure is select and delete. You have a simple confirmation before deleting either a single file or batch.

I was surprised to still find some huge chunks of data from uninstalled GPS apps. However, trudging through the entire list was not something I was prepared to do on the spot. So I think I'll keep SD Card Cleaner around and check back with it while waiting for a bus.

Keep in mind that files found with this app are not necessarily junk. You might just delete something important if you're not careful.
